Description:
Retention starts with recruitment; If we want to create a more
resilient, diverse workforce, we must start by improving our recruitment
processes. This webinar will cover practical steps libraries can take to
attract a wide pool of diverse candidates. Drawing from the stories of current
job hunters, we’ll look at how to avoid some of the more hair-raising
practices. Then we’ll explore the foundations of a well-considered recruitment
strategy, delving into current research as well as techniques from programs
such as Oregon State University’s Search Advocates. This webinar will provide a
better understanding of how to get clear on your needs, communicate effectively
with candidates, and above all center kindness in an arduous process. You will
leave with a practical guide to revamping your announcements and reaching great
candidates.
The foundation of this webinar is the presenter’s work on the Hiring Librarians blog, where she has conducted surveys and interviews with hundreds of people who hire library workers, in all library types, and more than 500 job hunting librarians. She has worked with the authors of over 16 books on LIS careers, and of 27 scholarly articles. She has also curated crowd-sourced resources, such as a list of questions asked in more than 560 library job interviews.
