Description:

There are many games explicitly designed to teach specific topics, skills, or concepts, and some of these games. Games designed in this way are collectively known as “serious games” and they serve an obvious function (i.e. this game teaches X). But can we use games that are primarily designed to be fun and not at all about libraries to teach information literacy concepts? Would such an experience be both fun and valuable?

In this session Carl will discuss why one might seek to employ tabletop games to teach information literacy, how to go about finding a game that fulfills a specific teaching objective, strategies to get the most out of the experience, and the pitfalls and challenges to watch out for when using tabletop games to teach.
