Employees motivated to deliver top notch service are key to a library’s success. But many in library organizations don’t know how to effectively encourage employee motivation. As a critical management and leadership skill, it’s important to know what motivation is and isn't, what works and what doesn’t. In this session, we’ll explore factors that influence motivation at work and review strategies for supervisors to keep their teams motivated and productive. No matter the size of your library or your role, you will be discover your own motivation and inspire motivation in others.
Presenter: Rachel Rubin has been the Director of Library and Information Services at Capital University since July of 2017. Prior to joining the staff at Capital, she was the director of Bexley (OH) Public Library for seven years, a branch manager for the Worthington (OH) Libraries, and an assistant manager at Columbus Metropolitan Library. She holds a BA from Carleton College, a Master of Library and Information Science from Kent State University, and a Ph.D. in Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions from Simmons College. She has taught management classes for the School of Library and Information Science at Kent State, and presents regularly on topics such as organizational behavior and building healthy organizational cultures to a variety of audiences. She holds several leadership roles within the American Library Association and is an active member of ACRL. She lives in Bexley, Ohio with her husband, three cats, and eight bicycles.
