The Indiana State Library will host the annual Indiana Genealogy and Local History Fair in downtown Indianapolis. Admission is free and open to the general public. This year’s theme is “200 Years of My Indiana Home,” examining the lives and times of Hoosiers throughout the years and exploring the homes and neighborhoods in which they lived. Attendees will learn how to incorporate local history, architecture, house history, and maps and other land record resources into their family research. Over 30 organizations and exhibitors will be in attendance.
Visit the tables in the exhibition hall to collect information from genealogical and local history organizations and Indiana public libraries, and shop the commercial vendors.
To receive LEUs, you must register via email by contacting Crystal Ward at crward@library.in.gov.
Speakers:
A passionate genealogist, Jill Morelli lectures about her Midwestern, northern German and Scandinavian ancestors. Her lively presentations on intermediate and advanced methodologies, unique records sets, Swedish research and house histories convey information that is readily usable by attendees whatever their skill level. Jill will speak on house histories – looking at the “genealogy” of your house, and using Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps in your research.
Ann Staley, CGSM, CGLSM, is an instructor, consultant, trip leader and a lecturer. Her specialties are methodology, research sources, computer resources, vital records and their sources, conference planning, and assisted research trips to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT. We sometimes forget that our ancestors had flesh and bones, and stories to tell. Ann will be speaking on the everyday lives of our ancestors. She will also examine city directories, how to locate them, and how to utilize them in your research.
